Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered many other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are currently not informed of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities announced they were working "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior political figure commented the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a assailant targeting residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
